Gunpla Build - High Grade Command Quan[T] (Part 1)

It should be no surprise that the Gundam Breaker Battlelogue models reuse lots of old runners from existing kits. What is surprising is just how many parts from the original HG Quant[T] are not used in the Command Quan[T].

By far the trickiest thing is keeping track of which of the clear yellow lenses you need to keep, and which you need to ditch. They’re all very specific sizes, and some of them have their tops flattened off. You can’t just swap them all willy nilly.

I guess I don’t need to show you the runners, but let’s just do it anyway:

That’s a lot of different colors, and that concerns me. This combination of colors ought to severely clash. In most of the promo photos and video reviews I’ve seen, it seems like the look okay, but I remain suspicious.

Knives

The knives are meant as a last resort weapon, and as such they’re the simplest of the bunch. They’re made out of two pieces each, though with some paint we can make them look a bit fancier:

Shield

Since the knives are stored in the shield, we might as well build that next:

To my eye, the shield looks (or at least looked) more complicated than it actually is. This here is really the “core” of it:

After that, you cap it off with the top piece:

And then the arm mount:

Then you just pop in the knives, and you’re done!

I think it looks better in photos than it does in person. I’m not really feeling this. I think it has the same problem as the Leo, namely that Bandai’s green plastic looks particularly toylike.

Hidden Gun

The shield has a small gun barrel at the bottom. I was not at all aware of this before starting the build. That means it technically has one more gun than I assumed, though it's not really much of a gun.

Sword

The sword has an extremely long blade, and a surprisingly complex hilt:

It’s a pretty futuristic take on such a old school weapon.

Rifle

This is an interesting comparison to the Jesta Cannon’s two rifles. They are all quite large, they all use a bare minimum number of parts, and they all look quite detailed.

In the case of the Jesta, this is because its guns are covered in lots of surface details:

The Jesta Cannon’s Rifles

The Quanta’s rifle instead has some thick, heavy, well placed panel lines that create a strong sense of parts separation. You don’t have to do much, if anything at all, to make it look nice:

A couple more observations:

  • The bayonet at the tip of the rifle is made by taking one of the blades from the original Quan[T] and inserting it backwards:
  • The rifle has a scope, and it gets not one, but two decals for the front and back lenses. That’s a nice touch

Conclusion

This is not a bad set of weapons, but for something that is supposed to be a reincarnation of the Command Gundam, I feel like it has far too many bladed weapons, and not enough guns.

But hey, maybe that’s unfair. Maybe it will look great posing with all these swords. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
