Vacation and New Kits 2023-07-11

I recently got back from vacation. It was … didn’t go well.

One saving grace is that I got to stop (and shop) at a Hobbytown USA that was on the way home. I’ve never been to a Hobbytown, and I’ve long been curious about what I was missing. This one had more painting supplies than my local hobby shops, but the Gunpla selection itself was about the same. It was nice to learn that I’m not really missing out on much.

As for my haul:

Gunpla Build - High Grade Gundam Lfrith (Part 1) 2023-06-09

It’s time to put on a brave face and dive into this build. First, the runners:

It may not seem like a lot at first glance, but don’t be fooled. The C-Runner in particular is loaded with parts. This is a more detailed model than you might think.

There are a couple of observations I’d like to point out before we get started on the build proper.

Gunpla Build - High Grade Gundam Lfrith 2023-06-04

I’ve been watching Gundam: The Witch From Mercury as it airs. So far I’ve been (mostly) enjoying it, but there is one thing I find surprising: I don’t care much for most of the mobile suit designs.

It’s not that I think they’re bad or anything. They just don’t do much for me (and I have no idea why).

So far the only exception has been the Gundam Lfrith, from all the way back in the show’s special Prologue episode from last summer:

It’s the only suit in the show that I find appealing (well, that and Aerial, since it looks so much like Lfrith). Which is why I chose it to be among my first - and maybe one of my only - GWitch kits.

Gunpla Build - High Grade Barzam (Part 1) 2023-05-27

Early on I could tell this was going to be an unusual build, so I started taking lots of Work In Progress photos right from the very start.

However it didn’t take long before I remembered why I slowly moved away writing detailed, nitty-gritty Work In Progress build posts. No matter how many photos I take, there are always a few key shots that I forget to take, and that throws the whole effort off.

(Also, sometimes I take a bunch of photos for some specific purpose, only to forget what that purpose is later on when I sit down to write)

Sure enough, all of these happened during this build, so apologies in advance. I’ll do my best to work with the photos I have.
